Long term care workers need our support

Long-term care residents and staff are among the most vulnerable during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During an outbreak, there is incredible strain on staff to deliver care as they work around-the-clock. Unfortunately, these workers also experience the greatest instances of health complications.

We all know someone who is residing in a nursing home or other long-term care facility. Help us provide meal deliveries to LTC staff managing COVID-19 outbreaks. Let's show our support to these frontline staff as they help support our loved ones.

Our story: how it all started

Our mother is a nurse practitioner at a nursing home in Barrie. With the increased demands caused by COVID-19, she has been required to work overtime on short notice.

Given the severity of the virus and the vulnerable patients that she supports, she is not permitted to leave her building to grab a meal during her shifts. There have been many instances where she has worked 15 hour shifts without getting a bite to eat.

We were concerned about our mother's well-being, as well as the well-being of other healthcare practitioners who have experienced increased strain from COVID-19. Additionally, with news of restaurant closures on the rise, we saw an opportunity to help another sector who is experiencing difficulty during this time: the restaurant industry. This prompted us to create Donate A Plate.

We are a team of three volunteers running this initiative. 100% of donations go towards meal deliveries to LTC staff.
